I'm sorry (again)

Last year, I managed to piss off more than 20,000 people overnight.

Not exactly the milestone I had in mind for 2025...

Before I give you the apology you are owed, I want to tell you a personal story about my own health.

A few years ago (2018 to be precise), I got some blood results that made me feel *slightly* anxious.

I was a doctor, a surgeon..

I talked about health for a living.

But I was now diagnosed with high cholesterol and fatty liver.

I thought I was "healthy" but this reality was enough to make me confront an uncomfortable truth:

Knowing what to do and actually building your life around doing it are two very different things.

So I started changing the boring stuff.

More movement.

Better food.

More plants.

More fibre.

The sort of things that don’t usually come with a sexy name, a wearable, or a £400 biohacking subscription.

And over time, those boring things worked (funny that!)

That experience changed how I thought about health.

It also made me mildly obsessed with fibre.

Not in a normal human way, but in a “why does every fibre supplement either taste awful, turn into wallpaper paste, or make you feel like you’ve swallowed a blunt bit of sandpaper?” kind of way.

So eventually I started experimenting.

Bags of different fibres appeared in my kitchen (probably pissed off my wife)

Scales, spreadsheets, handwritten notes and glasses containing increasingly suspicious-looking liquids were littered around the house.

My wife, at various points, probably wondered whether she’d accidentally married Walter White with an unusually specific interest in bowel movements.

But eventually that kitchen experiment became something real...LOAM

And then I made a mistake.

A pretty big one.

Because when it finally launched, a huge number of the people who had been following the journey couldn’t actually buy it.

They lived in the UK.

So did I.

And somehow the thing I’d spent years building here was easier to buy in America than it was at home.

More than 20,000 people joined the UK waitlist.

Then came the messages.

Some polite.

Some… less polite.

And honestly, I understood every single one.

Even my own family started giving me grief.

My aunt and uncle, who have dealt with things like prediabetes and high cholesterol, had watched me spend years talking about fibre, metabolic health and the microbiome.

Their response was essentially:

“Very nice bheta (means child/kid in Hindi). Can we actually buy the thing?”

Erm...no...not yet.

There is something particularly humbling about building a health company and then being roasted by your own relatives because your supply chain doesn’t work.

And I could have given everyone the startup explanation.

But none of that really mattered.

You had waited, we weren’t ready.

And that was on us...on me

So for the last eight months, I’ve been trying to fix it.

And those eight months have coincided with probably the most intense period of my life.

Because while I’ve been trying to grow my startup baby…

I’ve also been trying to keep my actual baby alive.

There have been nights where I’ve been replying to warehouse emails at 1 a.m., feeding a baby at 2 a.m., waking up again at 4 a.m., then somehow appearing on camera the next morning pretending that human beings are designed to function this way.

I am completely exhausted.

But weirdly…

I’m also really happy.

Because LOAM has finally come home.

LOAM is now available properly in the UK.

Not shipped halfway around the world with absurd postage.

It's actually here and there is something genuinely emotional about that for me.

I came to this country when I was five.

I went to school here.

Medical school here.

Worked in hospitals here.

Built my career here.

And this is where I started building LOAM.

So to the 20,000+ of you who waited…

To everyone who messaged me asking when it was coming…

And especially to everyone who was understandably annoyed the first time around…

I’m sorry it took us this long.

But we finally got there.

You can grab it here: FIBRE ME UP

Thank you for sticking with me.

Karan

P.S. My aunt and uncle can finally stop asking me when they can order it. Which, from a purely selfish perspective, may be the greatest achievement of this entire launch.

P.P.S I'd love to know if you've tried LOAM already and how you're finding it, or if you were waiting for this UK launch to happen before trying it or just want to say hi? Hit reply... I’d love to hear it and hear from you! (yes I read every reply!!!)
